Gloomy exhibition seriesIG, Email

Nina Plášková and Keanu Sapadi are artists from the Berlin based Gloomy artist movement. Their exhibition series The Darkness Is Coming explores various facets of darkness within Berlin’s art scene.

Gloomy
presents contemporary artists whose work engages with the dark through multimedia approaches and conceptual depth.

The Darkness Is Coming examines the aesthetic field of tension inherent in sombre artistic practices and brings concealed interests and underlying patterns to the surface. Here, one encounters personalities and works that emerge in an autonomous and self-determined manner.

In the first exhibition, contemporary artists unfold the aesthetic tensions of dark artworks, bringing hidden interests and motivations to the surface.
The exhibition presents works and positions that emerge autonomously.

In the heart of Alexanderplatz, within a frequented and ambivalent ground-floor space, a dark playground is taking shape as a temporary venue. It is defined by a broad, multimedia spectrum of artistic perspectives. The featured works examine darkness not only as an aesthetic phenomenon but also emphasize its emotional, philosophical, and historical dimensions

At the centre of the exhibition is the idea that darkness not only conceals but also acts as a source of truth and transformation. Rather than unifying, The Darkness Is Coming connects through contrast.

This first exhibition serves as a rich amuse-bouche for upcoming projects: Which works engage with darkness through technique, aesthetics, and medium? Which, through their content? And where does light break through to the surface when the darkness becomes unbearable?
